COVID-19 highlights the risks of WATER POVERTY for children and communities in Kenya
With the current global situation, your help is needed MORE THAN EVER.
Together we can empower local communities and leaders to better manage public resources.
This means they can meet their own local needs for water, sanitation, and hygiene services
and end water poverty for good. #SupportWaterRights
ABOUT AFRICAN DEVELOPMENT CHOICES
We are a UK-based social enterprise, founded in 2018 by Kenyan-born Moses Tai. Our vision is to provide an alternative perspective on how public resources can be better managed, by using information form donot-funded projects in Kenya.
We fight poverty by championing access to essential services such as clean water, safer sanitation and better hygiene for schoolchildren and communities in rural Kenya. Better management of public resources leads to increased access to essential services. This in turn reduces poverty.
We provide an alternative perspective in order to raise expectations of what can be achieved when public resources are better managed. We believe that this can be achieved by empowering communities and showing them how they can manage resources, and meet their own needs independently.
Our unique approach is what sets us apart. Our innovative structure empowers the communities in Kenya to participate in better management of public resources.
We’re transparent about the use of resources, using our research on donor-funded and public-funded community projects
We inform communities about the cost and impact of our projects, compared to projects initiated by local leaders
We show communities how to play an active role in the decision-making process towards the allocation of local resources
OUR CURRENT PROJECT
Our pilot project is to provide a supply of clean water and new toilet facilities for the children of Nyansakia Primary School in Kenya.
Check out our video of the school. See for yourself how vital our work really is.
Take a look at the new toilet facilities for the schoolchildren, designed by ADC.
A crucial pillar of the 2010 Kenyan Constitution is to provide the public with the opportunity to take part in decision-making processes in government. Studies show a number of challenges hindering this.
ADC’s mission is to overcome these challenges.
We focus on empowering local communities to influence decisions that directly affect them – such as public spending on water, sanitation, and hygiene services.
Our unique approach allows us to drive sustainability in three key areas:
Increase public participation
We raise expectations for local communities about how resources can be managed, empowering them to participate more in future
Improve public resources management
Our approach increases self-sufficiency: the key to establishing a sustainable society and reducing dependency on aid
Expand access to essential services
The opposite of poverty is dignity: access to essential public services is fundamental in safeguarding vulnerable communities
YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE
We need YOU! With your help, ADC will give more schoolchildren in Kenya a better life and brighter future.
