Tackling the root causes of poverty

ADC At A Glance

WHAT we do:

We fight poverty by helping people get access to essential services like clean water and sanitation.

u

WHY we do it:

A lack of access to essential services is a root cause of poverty.

WHERE we do it:

We work in rural communities in Africa that struggle to meet their own needs for essential services.

HOW we do it:

We equip communities and their leaders with the knowledge and tools to better manage their public finances and resources, enabling them to independently meet their needs for essential services.

Our Pilot Project

We have partnered with a school in Kenya to pilot our theory for effecting long term change.
Meet the students of Nyansakia II Primary School.

Every day, the schoolchildren have to use old, dilapidated and unsanitary pit latrines. The school has no access to clean water or adequate sanitation. These are circumstances no one should endure, let alone children.

Watch their story and see how our Pilot Project is bringing hope and changing lives.

Our Innovative Approach

We call our approach Precedent Setting Development, which means creating projects that set new examples for communities to follow. These projects demonstrate what is possible, inspiring people to believe in and work toward change, together.

People’s lived experiences shape what they expect for the future. If they don’t expect their lives can improve, they may not take part in decisions that could help. Our projects show communities what’s possible by setting new, positive examples. This gives people hope and encourages them to take action.

1. Set a precedent:

Our community projects demonstrate how public finances and resources can be used effectively to deliver sustainable essential services.

2. Raise expectations:

We provide hands-on experiences, education, and support to help communities expect more from their public finances and resources.

3. Promote participation:

We empower communities to play an active and informed role in decisions that shape their lives, driving lasting change.

Our Volunteer’s Story

Our work is powered by a network of passionate volunteers who share a desire to empower communities and leaders in Africa to make better public finance and resourcing choices.
